Project Overview

In collaboration with a high end London property developer, this project involved the design, supply, and installation of seven individual fires and fireplace surrounds throughout a newly developed private estate in Surrey. The scheme included two Cambridge limestone mantels, a bespoke marble design, and the restoration of two original French antique marble surrounds, each paired with either inset wood burning or open and balanced flue gas fires to meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.

The Fireplaces

Each fireplace was individually specified to suit the architectural character and use of the room, traditional, bespoke craftsmanship and contemporary detailing with high-performance fires.. The selection includes gas and Eco ready, wood-burning models in open, inset, and balanced flue formats. Surrounds include bespoke marble designs, Cambridge limestone, and restored French antiques.

1. Formal Reception
A restored antique charcoal marble mantel with gold ormolu detailing frames an open gas fire (DFE 6.9kW) with a Low Louis Egg Dart basket. Set over antique brown granite with stepped riser, cast iron infill and ribbed board interior.

Fire Features: Open gas flame with instant ignition, authentic coal-effect bed, and strong visual presence.

2. Formal Bar
Complementing the reception room, this open gas fire (DFE 6.9kW) is paired with a Regency fire basket and a marble mantel with gold ormolu detailing. Finished with an antique granite hearth and cast iron contre coeur infill detailing to complete the traditional setting.

Fire Features: Decorative open gas fire with classic flame pattern and traditional styling.

3. Garden Room
A bespoke Breccia Capraia marble mantel in a clean-lined Metro style frames a Barbas Bellfire Horizon Medium balanced flue gas fire.

Fire Features: Wide-format glass, remote control operation, adjustable flame height, and high-efficiency balanced flue design.

4. Bedroom
Restored French antique marble mantel by MHF with a large Adams Pierced basket and DFE 6.9kW open gas fire. Finished with a traditional granite hearth, ribbed board interior and honed antique granite detailing.

Fire Features: Open-fronted gas fire offering visual warmth and period charm.

5. Master Suite
A bespoke bolection-style mantel in Arabescato marble is paired with the Barbas Bellfire Derby Large balanced flue gas fire.

Fire Features: Sleek frameless design, glass-fronted for high efficiency, remote control, and powerful heat output.

6. Hallway
This fireplace features a large Cambridge Limestone mantel paired with the Di Lusso R6 wood-burning inset stove, finished with a brown antique granite hearth and stepped riser.

Contemporary Heating, Heritage Detailing

This multi-fireplace commission brought together classical architectural features with modern heating technologies. From open gas fires with decorative baskets to high-efficiency balanced flue and inset wood-burning stoves, each installation was tailored to its setting. The Di Lusso R6 offered clean, eco-conscious heating, while Barbas Bellfire gas models provided remote-controlled efficiency with frameless visual appeal.

Restored French antique mantels, bespoke marble designs, and classically proportioned Cambridge limestone surrounds formed the architectural backbone of the scheme, each complemented by carefully selected hearths, inlays, and fire baskets to enhance both function and form. Where appropriate, original detailing such as ormolu and cast iron was restored or retained.

The Result

A carefully curated collection of fireplaces that blend historic character, architectural clarity and antique detailing with modern fire technology. The result is a cohesive series of installations from formal entertaining spaces to bedrooms and transitional zones, each fireplace contributes to the refinement of this private estate. Each fireplace brings the outdoors in, creating inviting focal points that blend period character with contemporary performance through real flame, natural stone, and timeless design.
